Some thoughts on poetry...

Poetry affects people on many levels. It can be funny, touching, poignant, melancholy, irrelevant, irreverent or just plain daft. Whatever emotions it stirs in the reader, you can be sure that it has affected the writer in an equally complex way. For me, I love the feeling of expression that prose doesn't quite give me. Sometimes writing a poem will feel like tackling an enormous jigsaw puzzle. Slotting the correct words into place until you have completed the picture in such a way that people can actually tell what it is. It's even better if you haven't had to cut any edges off the pieces to make them fit. Compared to that giant literary jigsaw the feeling of accomplishment when I finish (or more often than not abandon) a poem, is much the same.
I've tended to focus on two main areas. Poems for children - grouped under the heading 'Blue Dogs Don't Fly' - and 'Somewhere In Mind' a series of poems about love. I've included a small selection of work below. If you would like to use the poems in any way, all I ask is that you credit me somewhere.
If you would like to acquire a complete listing of the poems, they're available on the 'For Sale' page for an extremely modest fee.
By the way, If you would like to commission a poem about a special event, person, place or happening, please get in touch.

Snow
I love the freezy frosty snow The way it sets my face aglow My rosy cheeks and cozy toes Tingly fingers icy nose Knocking knees and chilly bum Tired of snow now roll on sun |
